    Dear friend,

Joint Culture Initiatives is pleased to announce the twentieth edition of Asiatica – Encounters with Asian Cinema, our annual Asian film festival which will be held in Rome, Italy, from October 1st to October 10th, 2019 at the Nuovo Cinema Sacher in Trastevere, as well as in the adjacent spaces of the historic WeGil.

For our 20th Anniversary we are organizing various event from September to December to bring Asian movies all over Italy, starting with a review of Taiwanese movies from September 6 to September 8 at the famous museum MAXXI of Rome. In October, just after Rome, we will present a selection of movies in Palermo in collaboration with the Center of Cinematography of Palermo and also another selection will be presented in Bologna from November 14 to November 17 in collaboration with the Cineteca di Bologna. And last but not least from December 5th to December 8th we will screen a selection of movie at the City College in New York.

Asiatica presents new features, documentaries and short films by Asian film directors shot or produced in Asian countries, providing a unique opportunity to see qualitatively interesting works which have neither been presented nor distributed in Italy.

The first nineteen editions of the festival have been hugely successful and have led to Asiatica becoming a point of reference in Italy for films from Asia. A consistent increase in the number of events coupled with enthusiastic press reviews, every year, has clearly demonstrated a keen interest by the Italian public in Asian cinema. The festival is a non-profit event, funded by the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the city and the Region of Lazio. Supported by various Italian distributors and national associations of film critics, the festival can also count on the patronage of many Asian Embassies and Cultural Institutions. You may find additional information about previous editions on our website at:

We would like to consider your film: The Birthland by Proshoon Rahmaan
for pre-selection in the film festival program of the next edition of Asiatica, Encounters of Asian Cinema.

We would also be interested in receiving any other production you may consider appropriate for our festival.

There are four main sections of the festival and they are divided as follows: feature length films, shorts and documentaries made before October 2018 each generally presented in two competitive section and two non-competitive “panorama” sections.
All films selected for competition, must be Italian premieres.

If you agree to submit your film for pre-selection, please, send us a link to the film with English subtitles, as soon as possible. Kindly let us know which format with English subtitles would be available for our festival dates. For anymore inquiries, please don’t hesitate to write us.

We look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you in advance for your kind collaboration.
